About David Olkarny

Ever since I was little, I’ve loved animals.
I turned down the bottle in favor of a sippy cup.
My favorite mode of transportation was a kangaroo carrier—strollers were for babies.
I used to slide down the stairs astride a big stuffed dog.
My comfort toy was a white bunny, now earless, courtesy of my teething adventures.

The youngest of three siblings, I raised my voice (since I couldn’t raise my height) to make myself heard. My signature phrase was, “Look, Mom!” as I showed her my somersaults, drawings, handstands, five-layer sandwiches, hair gel experiments (a whole pot in one go), or bold outfit combos like a floral shirt with plaid shorts. However, I was far quieter when it came to showing her my report card.

Curious by nature, I tried hockey, judo, tennis, hip-hop dance, skateboarding, diabolo, and even flips. I love starting things but rarely finish them—I don’t like the word “The End” at the close of a movie.
After school, I would dive straight into snacks and colored pencils. Today, my love for food hasn’t faded, nor has my affection for creativity. While I no longer draw, I now channel my imagination through my canon camera.

I RUB MY NOSE...

...every time I have an idea. Thankfully, my nose doesn’t bear any marks. Or does it?

I LOVE NATURAL LIGHT

I enjoy editing photos under artificial light, while the city sleeps.

I love my country

- Belgium - so much that my feet have taken its shape: flat feet mentioned at every medical check-up.

I AM A PASSIONATE SOUL

I love life in all its forms — not just models dressed in haute couture. A glance, a posture, a gesture, a tone of voice — every little detail is something I’ll capture and elevate.

I Love...

  • Being in the sun while others are stuck in the rain
  • Falling asleep to the background noise of an American series
  • Breakfast in bed
  • Sharing my photographic world online without moderation
  • Pizza
  • REditing photos while watching a movie
  • Outdoor workouts between shoots
  • The smiles of newlyweds as they discover their wedding album
  • Cats
  • Green plants
  • My mom’s lovingly cooked homemade meals
  • My wild bedhead hair in the morning

I Don’t Love...

  • Being caught in the rain while others bask in the sun
  • Missing an appointment because I couldn’t hear my alarm over the noise I slept through
  • Crumbs in the sheets
  • The photos of me naked at two years old, pinned to the living room wall at my mom’s house.
  • Pineapple on pizza
  • Commercials during movies
  • Soccer—except when the Red Devils win
  • Hearing “Rainy weddings bring happy marriages”
  • Cat fur everywhere
  • Watering green plants
  • Fancy, expensive restaurants serving a lonely carrot next to a thinly sliced zucchini
  • My little lisp
